JAKARTA - The final meeting of the AFC Asian Cup 2007 Organising Committee, under the chairmanship of Zhang Jilong from China, was held on Friday, two days prior to the competition’s Final Match between Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Representatives from each host association were in attendance to review an interim report of all aspects of the competition to date.
Commenting on the success of the tournament, AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam applauded the four hosts for their hard work and cooperation.
“After long and hard preparation we have enjoyed three weeks of really entertaining football that has achieved the largest media platform in AFC’s history.
“I am impressed with how the Local Organising Committees overcame the challenges, and I am sure that we have established a new era in terms of organising our competitions, which will have impact on future Asian Cups.”
He continued, “I would like to pass my thanks to all involved, especially the volunteers, who have worked tirelessly.
“This event will hopefully be a turning point for football in the four venues and Southeast Asia in general in terms of performance of their national teams, organisation of football competitions, and fan support.”
